Cairo Moon makes dreams come true

width=250Our kids have got talent - So says Marina Simopoulos, owner of Cairo Moon Belly and Greek Dance School from Three Rivers in Vereeniging, South Africa, who has selected 8 upcoming dancers from the Polokong Children’s Village to join the dance school for an overseas tour in 2015. The 8 youngsters have been performing since 2012 and are hugely excited by this opportunity to perform in the annual show and also in an international trip to Germany later next year.

In 1991, Polokong Children’s Village was started by concerned members of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, who chose to help the neglected children in the area. This materialized once the Catholic Bishop of Johannesburg granted permission that the Children’s Home be constructed on his land. The project began as a Child and Youth Care Centre Children’s Home and over the years has expanded to include a Drop-in-Centre Programme, as well as an Emancipation Programme.

For 23 years, the Polokong Children’s Village have cared for hundreds of children, by improving their everyday lives and giving them the opportunity to better themselves and study further. The Village is equipped with 5 houses that take care of children who are in desperate need of love and support. They also provide a cooked meal to children from the local community on a daily basis.

Polokong Children’s Village is situated in Evaton in a very poor community. They are a registered Non-Profit Organization with PBO status, BBBEE compliant, a Level 3 contributor with a 100% procurement recognition level and also Section 18a(1)(a) registered, which means all donations to the organization are tax deductible.

The success of the 8 dancers, aged between 14 and 21, proves that no obstacle is greater than their passion.
